BLOG: New Year New Brand
I mentioned it in December and I'll mention it again at least one more time in January. OMG has made it through a rebrand. We are now In Real Life Films - IRL as I say now when I answer my business phone line.
We celebrated our rebrand with a party on New Year's Eve, complete with snacks, beverages, and cake. We were blessed with friends and colleagues who stopped by to share in the sprit of the New Year and toast to our new brand.
The most asked question of the night, aside from, "When are you watching the final episode of Stranger Things so I can talk to someone about it?!" was, "Why the rebrand and why IRL?"
I started considering a rebrand in the late summer of 2025. There's not a single moment that I can pinpoint as "the turning point," but I can say that it was multiple conversations with friends and confidants about the direction I wanted to take my production company. And with that direction, came a rebrand.
The LLC for #OMGFemaleFilmmakers was founded in November of 2017, but I had been creating video content well before that formation, not only for the company that I worked for - HP - but for local nonprofits. HP encourages its employees to volunteer throughout the year. So much that they would give us 4-hours every month to volunteer, on HP time, with any nonprofit we wanted to support. I didn't really know what else to do for nonprofits, so I volunteered my time as a filmmaker, creating video content to support their efforts and help them raise money. It was these nonprofits who became my first clients. In essence, they helped me build the OMG that we know today.
That OMG still exists. #OMGFemaleFilmmakers will continue to create content for nonprofits, but the other aspects of OMG that I built - OMG Studios Boise and OMG Media Outlet - are making the rebrand shift to In Real Life Films. My one-line answer to everyone asking "why the rebrand?" is "It's time for OMG to grow up. And that's where IRL comes in."
In Real Life Films' focus is on brands and agencies looking for an expert video production team that can provide the same quality that we built through OMG. Through various projects that we took on in 2025, I recognized a need for a production company that can partner with agencies and brands to tell their story through a real-life lens. Especially as things shift toward AI (I could write an entire article on that, and probably will). I'll be the first to admit that we use AI in various aspects of our creative endeavors, but it's not AI that's telling the stories. It's real people, who have real experiences to share, and real life moments that need to be captured on film. And that's what IRL is here for. Those real moments and those real stories that captivate audiences and promote change. Whether that change be through purchasing a product or service, or an active change within oneself that leads to better relationships and understandings. Life will always be real and we're here to really capture it in real life.
